Four trips for one-on-one collaborations with his four Yes bandmates led Jon Davison to write the songs that make up “Heaven & Earth,” the legendary rock band’s 21st studio album.
“Chris Squire and I got together (in Phoenix) and worked on ‘The Game’ and ‘In a World of Our Own’ back in 2012,” said Davison, who became lead singer of the group that year. “Then I went and saw Steve (Howe) in the countryside of England and we worked on new material. Then it was Wales to write with Geoff (Downes). And I went to Seattle to work with Alan (White).
“It was all one-on-one initially and then we got together before doing the album to solidify and arrange the music as a band. That’s when everything came to life.”
“Heaven & Earth” will be released July 22 on Frontiers Records. The band will support the album with a 35-date U.S. tour that kicks off at 8 p.m. Saturday at Tioga Downs Casino in Nichols. The concert will feature Yes performing two of its classic albums (“Fragile” from 1971 and “Close to the Edge” from 1972) in their entirety, along with an encore of greatest hits and songs from “Heaven and Earth.”
