FAIRPORT Convention, the legendary band hailed as the creators of British folk-rock music, named their highest ranking UK album Angel Delight after the former Little Hadham listed pub where it was written.
The band is returning to the county which inspired some of its most iconic music this month to play at the Hertford Theatre.
It was in 1970 that Fairport musicians and their families moved into the village and set up home in The Angel at Little Hadham's busy A120 crossroads.
Three of the band's top selling albums – Full House, Angel Delight and Babbacombe Lee – were compiled there during 1970 and 1971.
Angel Delight reached number eight in the UK Album Charts and was Fairport's highest chart album in Britain.
The play list features Bridge Over the River Ash – Little Hadham is nestled in the Ash valley on the banks of the River Ash, and the lyrics of title track Angel Delight include "There's a hole in the wall where a lorry came in" – marking the day a lorry smashed through the wall of the old pub and narrowly missed the bed of fiddler Dave Swarbrick.
The lorry driver was killed in the accident and his girlfriend was seriously injured.
