FANS of a certain generation will know him best for his music and as the former YES keyboard player, while younger audiences will recognise him from the telly as a Watchdog presenter and Grumpy Old Men commentator.
Now we are invited to spend Yet Another Evening With Rick Wakeman, when he comes to The Hawth on Thursday (March 19).
There is the promise of being entertained by the "music and anecdotal wit of an old age pensioner" as Rick recounts stories from a career that has included musical collaborations with David Bowie, Cat Stevens and Elton John, as well as worldwide tours with YES and his own band, The English Rock Ensemble.
The show will be punctuated by displays of virtuosity on the piano from Rick, a Fellow of the Royal College of Music and professor of the London College of Music.
As a classically trained pianist, he was a much sought-after session musician in the late 60s and early 70s when he played on more than 2,000 records by artists such as Cilla Black, John Williams, Marc Bolan and Black Sabbath. In the early 70s, he found fame in his own right as a member of first Strawbs and then YES.
