THOM THE WORLD POET: The Daily Poem

Rob Ayling, yer Gonzo Grande Fromage, writes:

"Thom the World poet is an old mate of mine from way back in my history. Even pre-dating Voiceprint, when I was running "Otter Songs" and Thom's poetry tapes and guest appearances with Daevid Allen, Gilli Smyth and Mother Gong are well known and highly regarded. It just felt right to include a daily poem from Thom on our Gonzo blog and when I approached him to do so, he replied within seconds!!! Thom is a great talent and just wants to spread poetry, light and positive energy across the globe. If we at Gonzo can help him do that - why not?

PRE AUSTRALIA

WHEN DIVERSE LANGUAGES RULED

And culture was not objectified

except as useful tools and initiation art

No Romantic daubing of "Noble Savages"

Now Euro-Centric categories are overlaid

upon a culture we have no knowledge of.

Photographs taken in a static frame

are not moving corroborees,nor rituals.

Dilution of Kadaitcha Men and Dreamtime Stories

lose their power,point and focus(like Aboriginal Art/

which was not made for frames,but shared on sand like Buddhist Yantras..

On the walls of caves-overprinting of images

We "interpret"through European eyes.

If we knew all their languages.Learned all their secrets.

We would still not grok why their cultures died out

apart from our guns,diseases,poisons and despair.

Is their evidence here?
