THOM THE WORLD POET: The Daily Poem

Rob Ayling, yer Gonzo Grande Fromage, writes:

"Thom the World poet is an old mate of mine from way back in my history. Even pre-dating Voiceprint, when I was running "Otter Songs" and Thom's poetry tapes and guest appearances with Daevid Allen, Gilli Smyth and Mother Gong are well known and highly regarded. It just felt right to include a daily poem from Thom on our Gonzo blog and when I approached him to do so, he replied within seconds!!! Thom is a great talent and just wants to spread poetry, light and positive energy across the globe. If we at Gonzo can help him do that - why not?"

FLASHBACKS
BEAUTY OF LONGEVITY?
Long Distance Visions .They visit with intensities and clarity.
As if they are in this present moment.Beds you slept in.
People you knew. They are gone.Parts of you are, too.
Even though the door is locked, you can still see through
As they are frozen Polaroids in a sepia Temple.Yet-they move!
I was sharing about seeing the young Bee Gees
at the Myer Shopping Center in Chermside. It was just after
they had arrived in Australia from Manchester. There was still bush and trees and birds.
Magpies swooped down to take my young blonde hair for their nests. All remembrance is selective.
Bee Gees will never be as young and harmonic and pimpled as they were at 14 ,15 and 16.
I can only remember them as i experienced their youth.Later,i would hitch the Hippy Trail
to join my drummer friend Colin(Smiley)Peterson. He drummed for them(@APPLE,in London)
Never got there. Our paths never crossed again.Only now, when i hear SPICKS &SPECKS,I STARTED A JOKE
and all the harmonies of happiness that endeared me to the possibilities of shared pleasures.
How much remembered? How much hyperbole?Dreams still return/Clear as this Moment's shining.
Why deny them?

ADDICT ,I
METFORMIN,PIOGLITAZONE,LISINOPRIL,JARDIANCE
My dealers Doctors and that CVS.There is no cure/just maintenance
Pills daily, nightly.Who can forget all this?I remember my uncle
his dying bed ,next to a table filled with pills and potions
none of which had saved him from a pot-bellied end..
And my grandfather,on his death bed, still taking his medicine
even though he knew no pill could save him in the end.
Salt and sugar my mainlines.I digest them in all foods.
Been rewarded from childhood with these sweets which pump up dentist bills.
Peanut on a plane had shaken out a filling-so a hippy dentist in Hollywood
filled that hole .I gave him poetry.Satisfied,we.What i see-we
are all addicts .Some drugs kill faster than others-work,duty,beliefs,obedience.
Others string you out - they might sustain you -family,friends,acquaintances
Dependence universal as habits. Each day, another dose of time is apportioned.
You become oblivious to the fact of ends. Then they do.And you do,too
My best habit -is staying alive. No drug can top that-but some try to
Poetry,art,music-they are drugs,too.I am addicted.How about you?

"THERE IS NO REASON NOT TO HAVE A HAPPY ENDING"(ric williams)
PROJECTION IS EVERYTHING
'The past is always with us-in fact it is not even the past"
We recognize when it repeats repeats-World Wars 1 and 2,
Iraq War#1 and 2,Bush#1,Bush#2,but no Kennedy #2...
Endless Afghani Empire Occupations-first British,then Russian,now(still) us.
Only the weapons change.Opium still harvests with different warlords
Corruption CIA like Air America Vietnam.Different drug mule planes-same game.
History repeats repeats.Same lies,same games.Different faces,same cliches.
"Burn the village to save the village"Uncounted civilian casualties=Collateral damage.
What can stop this Goya? This Guernica? This Return to Nazism/Fascism?
Art?Music?Poetry?Pigeons,sparrows,seagulls squawking,cooing,carping.
Journalists shot.Whistleblowers imprisoned.War on Assange continues.
Faux replaces fact.Community radio and TV kept on tiny frequencies.Flea bites.
Still,we make documentaries with tacked on happy endings
We cannot bear the weight death despair sinks us.SMILE!
YOU ARE ON CANDID CAMERA!(all 200 of them in one London day)

Gonzo Weekly #409/10

THE COVID CONVERSATIONS ISSUE
This magazine continues to go off on strange tangents that I never expect, but I am very happy to see it do so. What is in this week? Ooooh lots of things. Such as The Flaming Lips, COVID Conversations, Fiona Apple and Auburn’s Liz Lenten, David Essex, Yusuf/Cat Stevens and oodles more, animal rescue with PAART, Reminiscences from Tony Klinger, and other stuff of interest.
And there are radio shows from Mack Maloney and Friday Night Progressive, AND Merrell Fankhauser, and the Real Music Club, AND Strange Fruit, and Mr Biffo, there is a column from Kev Rowland, and one from Tony Klinger, and C.J Stone, but Mr Biffo, and Neil Nixon, are on hiatus. There is also a collection of more news, reviews, views, interviews and dibblers who have got the blues (OK, nothing to do with tiny marsupials who are listening to the new Bob Dylan album, but I got carried away with things that rhymed with OOOOS) than you can shake a stick at. And the best part is IT's ABSOLUTELY FREE!!!

...BECAUSE SOME OF US THINK THAT THIS STUFF IS IMPORTANT
What happens when you mix what is - arguably - the world's most interesting record company, with an anarchist manic-depressive rock music historian polymath, and a method of dissemination which means that a daily rock-music magazine can be almost instantaneous?

Most of this blog is related in some way to the music, books and films produced by Gonzo Multimedia, but the editor has a grasshopper mind and so also writes about all sorts of cultural issues which interest him, and which he hopes will interest you as well.
