MICHAEL DES BARRES: Art relies on Authenticity

In order to express yourself, one must find out who is the self that is doing the expressing.
Suffering for your art is not necessary to be great. Art and its expression has dangerously clung to the myth that pain breeds greatness. This archaic notion is perpetuated by romantic deaths. There is nothing romantic about Morrison found in a bath, Cobain lifeless beside a shotgun, Elvis slumped in the bathroom with his pajamas around his ankles, or the brilliant Philip Seymore Hoffman found with a needle in his arm.
Art relies on authenticity. Truth. Therefore, find out who you are and share it with honesty and fearlessness, in all walks of life. Talent is a gift. Trust and respect that gift. Share it… love it… live for it.

...BECAUSE SOME OF US THINK THAT THIS STUFF IS IMPORTANT
What happens when you mix what is - arguably - the world's most interesting record company, with an anarchist manic-depressive rock music historian polymath, and a method of dissemination which means that a daily rock-music magazine can be almost instantaneous?

Most of this blog is related in some way to the music, books and films produced by Gonzo Multimedia, but the editor has a grasshopper mind and so also writes about all sorts of cultural issues which interest him, and which he hopes will interest you as well.
