John Mayall has confirmed the release of A Special Life, his first studio album in five years, which will appear in May via Forty Below Records.
It’s to be supported by a UK tour in October and November, following an extensive run of dates across Europe and North America. The large-scale return to action is designed to celebrate the icon’s 80th birthday, which took place last year.
Producer by Mayall, and also featuring his own artwork, A Special Life is described as “one of his most finest and most personal albums to date.”
It includes contributions from special guest CJ Chenier and backing band Rocky Athas (guitar), Greg Rzab (bass) and Jay Davenport (drums).
In addition to his UK tour, Mayall also appears at Ronnie Scott’s in London on April 19.
