Cream Drummer Ginger Baker to Release First New Album in 16 Years in June

Ginger Baker, the innovative and volatile drummer best known for his work with Cream and Blind Faithwill release a new studio album titled Why? on June 24.  The eight-song collection, which will be the 74-year-old Rock and Roll Hall-of-Famer’s first new record in 16 years, features him performing with his current touring group Jazz Confusion.
Why? finds Baker digging deep into his jazz roots, as well as exploring his passion for African rhythms.  The album is made up mostly of instrumentals, and includes covers of Wayne Shorter‘s “Footprints” and Sonny Rollins‘ “St. Thomas,” as well as an adaptation of a Nigerian folk song called “Aiko.”  The title track was inspired by Baker’s own personal troubles, and finds him reflecting on his losses and struggles.  The song currently is streaming exclusively at RollingStone.com.
Why? is available now for pre-order as a digital download at iTunes.

...BECAUSE SOME OF US THINK THAT THIS STUFF IS IMPORTANT
What happens when you mix what is - arguably - the world's most interesting record company, with an anarchist manic-depressive rock music historian polymath, and a method of dissemination which means that a daily rock-music magazine can be almost instantaneous?

Most of this blog is related in some way to the music, books and films produced by Gonzo Multimedia, but the editor has a grasshopper mind and so also writes about all sorts of cultural issues which interest him, and which he hopes will interest you as well.
