THOM THE WORLD POET: The Daily Poem

"Thom the World poet is an old mate of mine from way back in my history. Even pre-dating Voiceprint, when I was running "Otter Songs" and Thom's poetry tapes and guest appearances with Daevid Allen, Gilli Smyth and Mother Gong are well known and highly regarded. It just felt right to include a daily poem from Thom on our Gonzo blog and when I approached him to do so, he replied within seconds!!! Thom is a great talent and just wants to spread poetry, light and positive energy across the globe. If we at Gonzo can help him do that - why not?

FOLK TRADITIONS MORPH

as lyrics are updated.A shipwreck becomes a train wreck

becomes a coal mine disaster becomes a car smash becomes a bushfire

and finally,birds sucked into jet engines...Iambic pentameter /end-stopped rhymes

become spoken word rhythms,folk songs,rap ,hip-hop,trip-hop,free verse,song..

We change from forest to farm ,settlement to village,town to city to Metropolis..

Worlds change like weathers.Village gossip slanders to fence post conversations,

garrulous to jocular to typewriter to text ,Instagram,Tweet...Cannot go back-

to 78rpm,steel needles,alcoholism,patriachy,war,walls,consumption..

Certain diseases,once banished,return in poverty.Racism becomes starvation then refugee becomes Translated as separation/prison.

We become walls .We will not listen.We return to gossip,witch-hunts,persecution,executions in Village Squares

Soon,we will burn down all the churches,to make sacrifice of all our past gods/

Restore New Old ones-Baal,Moloch,Mammon ,Ego,Pride,Consumption  and Guilt.

Altars will be built.Burnt offerings,Starvation and sacrifice.Progress!
