THOM THE WORLD POET: The Daily Poem

Rob Ayling, yer Gonzo Grande Fromage, writes:

"Thom the World poet is an old mate of mine from way back in my history. Even pre-dating Voiceprint, when I was running "Otter Songs" and Thom's poetry tapes and guest appearances with Daevid Allen, Gilli Smyth and Mother Gong are well known and highly regarded. It just felt right to include a daily poem from Thom on our Gonzo blog and when I approached him to do so, he replied within seconds!!! Thom is a great talent and just wants to spread poetry, light and positive energy across the globe. If we at Gonzo can help him do that - why not?"

IF IT HAPPENS ONCE,IT CAN HAPPEN AGAIN
Ruta Maya was (to me)as seminal a venue as Les Amis for my Austin Ancestors
We had no SLACKER to exemplify the Life of Open Mics
All people saw was a Kerouac Hippie Hangout for poets, musicians,.artists and fringe dwellers
What it was -a Space for Continuing Conversations between consenting participants
Music came out more than cigar smoke. The Poetry Festival based itself there..
But Ruta Maya had three children-Mothership @4th/Lavaca,Elder Child,3601 South Congress(up from EXPOSE)
Sibling sister a caravan with open stage at Bouldin Creek Food Court.Rising rents forced these moves..
Halcyon moved in to 4th/Lavaca,and only now welcomes open mic (uncensored)poetry
which resurrects for the second time with Stephanie Morrissey as host this Thursday June 1.
This is a paen of praise to all poetic participants-to gather each month together
To re-learn the ways of truly free speech-and to re-share lifestyle divergence
As it is,once was,and may be(as long as you love the sounds of living poetry)

...BECAUSE SOME OF US THINK THAT THIS STUFF IS IMPORTANT
What happens when you mix what is - arguably - the world's most interesting record company, with an anarchist manic-depressive rock music historian polymath, and a method of dissemination which means that a daily rock-music magazine can be almost instantaneous?

Most of this blog is related in some way to the music, books and films produced by Gonzo Multimedia, but the editor has a grasshopper mind and so also writes about all sorts of cultural issues which interest him, and which he hopes will interest you as well.
