William Shatner says yes to prog-rock!

MUSIC --- William Shatner with progressive rock band Circa
Atheists may not have any songs, as Steve Martin slyly noted a few years ago in his memorably titled song, "Atheists Don't Got No Songs." But Klingons and Vulcans may be another matter.
Yes, William Shatner has announced his first prog-rock album, "Ponder the Mystery," which already has us pondering, well, plenty. The 15-song album features three former members of the pioneering prog-rock band Yes, including keyboardists Tony Kaye and Rick Wakeman, plus former or current members of Hawkwind, The Doors, Captain Beefheart's Magic Band, Foreigner, Tangerine Dream, Return To Forever and former San Diegan Frank Zappa's band (take a bow, Steve Vai).
"Mystery" also features guest spots by everyone from Vince Gill and Edgar Winter to former Zappa keyboardist George Duke, in one of his final recordings before his death last month. To be released Oct. 8, the album is the brainchild of Shatner -- who rose to fame as Captain Kirk on TV's "Star Trek" -- and former Yes guitarist Billy Sherwood.

...BECAUSE SOME OF US THINK THAT THIS STUFF IS IMPORTANT
What happens when you mix what is - arguably - the world's most interesting record company, with an anarchist manic-depressive rock music historian polymath, and a method of dissemination which means that a daily rock-music magazine can be almost instantaneous?

Most of this blog is related in some way to the music, books and films produced by Gonzo Multimedia, but the editor has a grasshopper mind and so also writes about all sorts of cultural issues which interest him, and which he hopes will interest you as well.
