Rob Ayling writes:
"Thom the World poet is an old mate of mine from way back in my history. Even pre-dating Voiceprint, when I was running "Otter Songs" and Tom's poetry tapes and guest appearances with Daevid Allen, Gilli Smyth Mother Gong are well known and highly regarded. It just felt right to include a daily poem from Thom on our Gonzo blog and when I approached him to do so, he replied with in seconds!!! Thom is a great talent and just wants to spread poetry, light and positive energy across the globe. If we at Gonzo can help him do that - why not? why not indeed!!" (The wondrous poetpic is by Jack McCabe, who I hope forgives me for scribbling all over it with Photoshop)
THE APOCALYPSE WE'VE BEEN ASKING FOR
FRENCH SOUP (CONSUMME)SERVED UP
Consider the ingredients=emotionally
dour,reserved,disdainful,distant
cynical if not sarcastic,deeply
ironic,containing Far Right constituents
Wine of libertinism mixed with spices of
Nostalgia-
would life not be better under De Gaulle/Le
Pen/Pinochet/Islamic Brotherhood?-
to offer a mock-spiritual base served with
nominal equality,egality,fraternity to taste.
This diet serves French Colonies as well as
the mainland-
think Algeria,Noumea,Tahiti,as well as those
last African outposts
still saluting the tricolor and paying for
Foreign Legionnaires.
This diet has a history .This meal remembers
Dreyfus,Verdun,Versailles,Revolutions
guillotines,Reigns of Terror,Vichy
Governments,collaborators and trench warfare.
D Day alluded to .Marches through Paris by
various invaders/liberators/occupiers.
Each writer must deal with current
unresolvable paradoxes-
economic stagnation and race riots.Right
wing vigilantism and peaceful protests.
Voltaire is here,Robespierre,Danton and De
Sade.
Memories stretch back to sieges and rat
eating.Forward to targeted assassinations.
A computer cannot program this Babette's
Feast.Even Godard grows silent.
Personal is political. If you are France-what
media meal will you eat tomorrow?
Now that they have killed the
cartoonists-will novelists follow?
