Composer/electronic percussionist Martin Birke started Genre Peak in 2005 after touring Europe and
scoring for The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre in the 1990’s. Having worked with several record labels and bands for two decades as an electronic percussionist and songwriter he found that collaboration was what truly made unique music. With producer/engineer/guitarist Christopher Scott Cooper, Martin found the perfect partner to take on the more complex recording aspects as Cooper’s experience as effects builder and audio engineer really put the finishing touches onto each track . Blending electronics and acoustics Genre
Peak has released 4 albums to date with “9 Microspheres” as the project’s first ambient release.
Ends of the Earth was the first release in 2006, an album that was primarily a rock trio featuring Martin with Daniel Panasenko and Stephen Sullivan. In 2008 ‘Preternatural’ showcased a more electronic selection of songs featuring more guests from around world including the late great bassist Mick Karn (Japan, Dalis Car), Canadian singer Tara C. Taylor, bassist Gustaf Fjelstrom, remixes by Spanish electro-pop master Alex Brujas and French band Kiss & Fly. After a hiatus in which Birke and Cooper joined with singer/composer Percy Howard to form Hardboiled Wonderland (a poetic trip-hop band ), Howard sung on 2 new tracks for the 2012 Genre Peak compilation album ‘Redux’ which featured the best tracks from 2006-2011.
With the new album ‘9 Microspheres’ Martin and guitar-synth artist Stephen Sullivan created atmospheres
and soundscapes that take the listener into deep and often dark realms of angst and tranquility. The
album is out digitally via Gonzo Media Group and on Limited Edition CD available only at the official website
www.genrepeak.net on May 28th. Genre Peak is currently working with Steve Jansen (Japan, David Sylvian, Nine Horses) and singer/composer Charlie Woodward on new and remixed material for a final album by 2015.
