The book is a coming of age memoir of the life and times of the original Zappa family. It provides great insight into the life of one of America’s most prolific composers and notable musicians of the 20th century, Frank Zappa.
Numerous books have been written about Frank Zappa, but until now there has never been as much detailed information about his early life. This is a story of two brothers who grew up as best friends. They were left to fend for themselves and “have each other’s backs” growing up in a somewhat dysfunctional home life. The book describes in eloquent detail the impact of the family’s numerous moves from Baltimore to California. It also serves as a descriptive reminder of a long gone era that many Frank Zappa fans will understand and appreciate. The book serves to enlighten the reader about a unique American life; the life of Frank Zappa.
The book was co-written with Bob Stannard. Mr. Stannard is a columnist, author, and musician. He has written for two Vermont newspapers for over a decade. He has also written and published two books and produced and released three CDs of blues harmonica music. This is his first collaborative effort with another author.
“Working with Bob Zappa was one of the most interesting and rewarding experiences of my life”.
