THOSE WE HAVE LOST: Merrell Fankhauser remembers Ed Cassidy

Its a sad day today my friend and fellow musician drummer Ed Cassidy passed away this morning of cancer. At 89 years old he was the oldest Rock N Roll drummer in the world! I'm so glad I got to spend over 20 some years playing live and recording with Cass. We also did some memorable videos and interviews on my TV show Tiki Lounge, some are posted on youtube. They will be treasures to me for the rest of my life, he was my guru in a way for his perseverance and his dynamic drumming style ! He will be missed by many. His Spirit lives on in the music......

PS: I found this great shot of Cass on his drums in front of Stone HEnge (green screen)it was from our video & song "Magic Chorus Line", on youtube and in the Gonzo Tiki Lounge Vol 1 set. I'm just glad he got to see the tribute to him and "Spirit" on the Gonzo release of "Tiki Lounge Vol 1" !.. We have a couple songs we recorded about a year and a half ago coming out next year. "Two Guys From The 60's" will be on the Sky Saxon Tribute CD with other artists & Bands. I have a Instro Surf Big Band style song "Out On The Town" that was the last recording he did... Hopefully that will get issued at some point

  1. I will miss him dearly. He taught me how to be "forever young" that we should never let go of our kid's spirit in ourselves. Yoriko

...BECAUSE SOME OF US THINK THAT THIS STUFF IS IMPORTANT
What happens when you mix what is - arguably - the world's most interesting record company, with an anarchist manic-depressive rock music historian polymath, and a method of dissemination which means that a daily rock-music magazine can be almost instantaneous?

Most of this blog is related in some way to the music, books and films produced by Gonzo Multimedia, but the editor has a grasshopper mind and so also writes about all sorts of cultural issues which interest him, and which he hopes will interest you as well.
