Rob Ayling writes:
"Thom the World poet is an old mate of mine from way back in my history. Even pre-dating Voiceprint, when I was running "Otter Songs" and Tom's poetry tapes and guest appearances with Daevid Allen, Gilli Smyth, Mother Gong are well known and highly regarded. It just felt right to include a daily poem from Thom on our Gonzo blog and when I approached him to do so, he replied with in seconds!!! Thom is a great talent and just wants to spread poetry, light and positive energy across the globe. If we at Gonzo can help him do that - why not? why not indeed!!" (The wondrous poetpic is by Jack McCabe, who I hope forgives me for scribbling all over it with Photoshop)
LIVING ON A BICYCLE IN THE GREEN BELT
he arrives regular as church each Tuesday night
sits
and drinks a can of beer and smokes and listens
only
very rarely responding/more absorbing the atmosphere
Homeless,he-here
homed in good company.Bearded he
with
eyes silent candle lit stories-of vigils/privation
washed
out creeks/sleeping bags stolen/waged war upon
yet
drinking in poem as water for his hot soul.No names necessary-
his
drinking in as solitary witnessing sufficient in green plastic
chairs
to
brave cold and wet and nights where stars were graves
We
are circle, candle, shaker, speech. He agrees to be within reach
knowing
one night he will flame in to speak.Until Zen,he takes books to
read
from
our Tuesday Night Free Library. In the Green Belt,by kerosene lamp
he
walks the pages of stories he picked/from the tongues of the past
he
will cycle his residence/homed in the words of all those present.
