He is one of the founding influences of the British punk movement, known for his choppy guitar-playing style, and is a former member of Dr Feelgood and Ian Dury and the Blockheads.
His manager, Robert Hoy, posted a statement on Johnson’s Facebook page, which said: “I am very sad to announce that Wilko has recently been diagnosed with terminal cancer of the pancreas. He has chosen not to receive any chemotherapy.
“He is currently in good spirits, is not yet suffering any physical effects and can expect to enjoy at least another few months of reasonable health and activity.”
He went on to say that, despite Johnson’s illness, he will continue to work, having already set off for Japan. Johnson also plans to record a new album, tour France and play a series of farewell shows in the UK. There will also be a live DVD release which was filmed on his last UK tour.
