THROUGH THE SONGS OF BIRDS
EACH MORNING,TREES
HELD A CONFERENCE
Birds who had slept
through the stars bright displays
and spy satellites
and surveillance flights
were shocked into new with the
traffic.Stillness shattered
like windshields .Nests
shuddered as the lights of day rose.
Street lights flicked off.Sun
rose nuclear ,sending distress solar flares.
Birds were busy seeking
worms.Those whose home was concrete poems
pecked at granite dust and dirt
.Cooing of doves .Jayhawks and grackles.
Cardinals and sparrows.All
gathered to hear the song of today.
Would it be some fresh hatched
newbie,unknown to fellow flyers?
Or some senior citizen
bird,whose melodies were memorized by all?
Rarely had such a gathering of
songsters gathered in one spot.
Ever since the hunting season
in Texas had begun
sharp barks of a gun were the
morning punctuation ending life sentences
Capital punishment?It is for
the birds...
