STEVE HILLAGE'S DAY IN THE SUN

File:System 7.JPGIT'S now nearly 25 years since my partner Miquette Giraudy and I had the idea that it would be great to combine some of the psychedelic sounds from our earlier bands like Gong with the new rhythms of the exploding house music scene.

Encouraged by our friends in the club scene like The Orb and Paul Oakenfold we launched our new project, System 7.

Via our label 10 Records in 1990 we met Derrick May and we started making tracks with him, and with Derrick we developed a great set of contacts with celebrated techno producers, which taught us a lot. This reached a peak in 1995 when Richie Hawtin made his Plastikman Remix of our track ‘AlphaWave’, which remains a big track to this day.

But one of the things that makes System 7 quite unique is that we also have a status in the psychedelic trance scene, probably because of our connections with Gong, and so we have a foot in several camps in the multi-genre dance music mosaic. 2013 in turning out to be another great year for System 7, and we’re particularly excited about playing again at Glastonbury.

...BECAUSE SOME OF US THINK THAT THIS STUFF IS IMPORTANT
What happens when you mix what is - arguably - the world's most interesting record company, with an anarchist manic-depressive rock music historian polymath, and a method of dissemination which means that a daily rock-music magazine can be almost instantaneous?

Most of this blog is related in some way to the music, books and films produced by Gonzo Multimedia, but the editor has a grasshopper mind and so also writes about all sorts of cultural issues which interest him, and which he hopes will interest you as well.
