NEWS ON SCOTT WALKER'S NEW ALBUM

"Just what the world needs - another album of Scott Walker making dischordant sounds" read the email in my in-box on Sunday evening, just after I woke up from my afternoon sleep. Like so many people the writer has not forgiven Scott for having turned his back on conventional music in the late 1970s, and instead making a string of confrontational, terrifying, and sometimes oddly beautiful experimental albums. This really is turning into a remarkable year for music, and I am very pleased that I am in the position to be able to chronicle it. People ask me who my favourite male singer is, and unquestionably I answer: Scott Walker. And he has a new album in the works...

Having recently announced the December release of Scott Walker's first album since 2006's The Drift, revealed today is a trailer that showcases the first music to be heard from Bish Bosch. Watch it on the album's mini-site - www.bishbosch.com - or watch below.

In addition to an extensive essay about the forthcoming album from The Wire's Rob Young, there is a four minute trailer for the album now also housed there. Director's Iain & Jane were granted rare access to the studio to capture Scott, his co-producer Peter Walsh and some of the musicians involved in the making of the record. With this footage, they have helped to create a unique film that uses extracts from tracks 'See You Don't Bump His Head', 'Tar', 'Dimple', 'Corps De Blah', 'Phrasing' and 'Epizootics!' to offer a tantalising insight to this much-anticipated album. Also included in this short film are glimpses of Scott working with painter Ben Farquharson and designer Philip Laslett in the creation of the album's artwork.
Expect more to be added to the mini-site in the build-up to the album's release on December 3rd/4th.
Further information on this release can be found here.

...BECAUSE SOME OF US THINK THAT THIS STUFF IS IMPORTANT
What happens when you mix what is - arguably - the world's most interesting record company, with an anarchist manic-depressive rock music historian polymath, and a method of dissemination which means that a daily rock-music magazine can be almost instantaneous?

Most of this blog is related in some way to the music, books and films produced by Gonzo Multimedia, but the editor has a grasshopper mind and so also writes about all sorts of cultural issues which interest him, and which he hopes will interest you as well.
