THOM THE WORLD POET: The Daily Poem

Rob Ayling writes: "Thom the World poet, is an old mate of mine from way back in my history. Even pre-dating Voiceprint, when I was running "Otter Songs" and Tom's poetry tapes and guest appearences with Daevid Allen, Gilli Smyth, Mother Gong are well known and highly regarded. It just felt right to include a daily poem from Thom on our Gonzo blog and when I approached him to do so, he replied with in seconds!!!

Thom is a great talent and just wants to spread poetry, light and positive energy across the globe. If we at Gonzo can help him do that - why not? why not indeed!!"

SHARLENE PHONED FROM OKLAHOMA

"J D has returned to art! he is painting and making music again! (I thought you might like to know!)"
So I do - but I ask: "How is his brave huge heart? Oh - the VA delayed his operation -
so he decided to start creating again in paint and rhythm.
So when the truck is fixed, we will return to Austin. For JD is beloved of musicians
and poets love to have his accompanying rhythms.
HIDEOUT, LA TAZZA FRESCA - his solid backing was more permanent than the patience of venues.
He returns to Oklahoma to paint (barns, that is) - and art in his spare time/which is less now he found Sharlene
who smiles thinly with him, locked and loaded with love in every chamber.
He floats through Austin as a golden gift
He gives his art and muse away - made a record with Bob Mud and Kathleen
he wanted to play for Patti Smith (who (he thought) would understand the poetry at play)
The record is made and sweetly sits on shelves
and stays as memories of how well JD can play.
But he went away to Oklahoma when Austin became too rich to stay.
Our parking meter valet parking gold condominium highrise taxes stole our free spirit JD away.
He will return when he has painted his way out of Oklahoma
When barns provide the paint ,and open hearts the harmonies
for an Austin we can all afford to stay within.
Don't hold your breath, Sharlene...
(keep him from death, Sharlene..)

...BECAUSE SOME OF US THINK THAT THIS STUFF IS IMPORTANT
What happens when you mix what is - arguably - the world's most interesting record company, with an anarchist manic-depressive rock music historian polymath, and a method of dissemination which means that a daily rock-music magazine can be almost instantaneous?

Most of this blog is related in some way to the music, books and films produced by Gonzo Multimedia, but the editor has a grasshopper mind and so also writes about all sorts of cultural issues which interest him, and which he hopes will interest you as well.
