THOM THE WORLD POET: The Daily Poem

Rob Ayling writes: 

"Thom the World poet, is an old mate of mine from way back in my history. Even pre-dating Voiceprint, when I was running "Otter Songs" and Tom's poetry tapes and guest appearences with Daevid Allen, Gilli Smyth, Mother Gong are well known and highly regarded. It just felt right to include a daily poem from Thom on our Gonzo blog and when I approached him to do so, he replied with in seconds!!! Thom is a great talent and just wants to spread poetry, light and positive energy across the globe. SIRENS OF CORNWALL

Carved image of a mermaid/curled and finned

with aliveness of a Green Man/only female

with breasts and scales  as bold as seas

still simmering with creatures magickal /miraculous

We know of dugongs,dolphins,white whales

Why is it so hard to picture Sirens/Maenads

Circe to Odysseus(tempting/taunting)?

Sailors sea sickness hallucinating sea soft white bellied women fish

Whether science authenticates-they live in world of myth

Facts await a body on a deck/dead as hope.Like some Loch Ness image

we dream mermaids,Neptune as Merman

and watch the Cornish coastline

for waves of women floating in..

SIRENA OF SALADO

When you go to Salado /Creek ,you will see a sculpture

of a mermaid/with a story/told by Tonkawa/of a maiden

who was allowed to be loved by her warrior each night

unless she was seen by human eyes(which she was!)

She would then be turned to mermaid,to circle forever

Sculpture freezes that mermaid in eternal repose

while the real mermaid is condemned to eternal motion

as a catfish in Salado Creek.Go ! see her ! Swim!

MERMAIDS,SIRENS,HARPIES,CIRCE
Only one mermaid left
on a bench in a Cornwall church
Once they sent caged canaries down coal mines
if they died,we were warned
Frogs are our litmus test of our environment
if there are none,we are next
Red squirrels rare as hens teeth
Whales park themselves on beaches
Elephants knew about Tsunami
Species are dying for lack of habitat
and ploar bears drown when they cannot swim
We are next.Avian flu,swine flu pandemics
Our little planet of burning trees and melting icebergs
Wars ,invasions,fires,floods,famine
and there is nowhere else to go
The moon has no moon base
Mars has no water for us
The rest as cold and dark as reason
Night and seasons.Age and recycling.
