This is the third album from the band Sky Architect
Rotterdam . The band consists of Tom Luchies (vocals and guitar ) , Wabe
Wieringa ( guitar), Guus van Mierlo (bass ) , Christian Brown (drums ,
backing vocals) , and Rik van Honk ( a series of keyboards : mellotron ,
piano , Hammond organ , rhodes and wurlizer pianos, clavinet , moog
synthesizer and also wind instruments and backing vocals ) .
It is difficult to place them. Pigeonhole It is
especially prog rock and I hear influences from Porcupine Tree , Emerson
Lake & Palmer and fellow Kayak and even Earth & Fire ( in '
Elegy Of A Solitary Giant' ) , but it is also different, rougher . It's a
bit of a mix of heavy prog and space rock . ' Revolutions' also goes
towards jazz . In any case, this is not an ordinary CD.
One caveat: do not put on this album if you want a
nice background music . This music demands attention completely . Each
song is an adventure , a musical rollercoaster . Were you just getting
used to the unusual time signature and then the rudder suddenly all
about . Listen to the eighteen- minute opening track 'The Curious One'
and you'll understand immediately what I mean. The music is not easy to
listen to. The melody and chord lines are not easy on the ears and the
album has a somewhat chilly atmosphere , as in a dark science fiction
film . That can not be a coincidence , because the album was inspired by
old science fiction films from the years 50/60 . So they feel they know
very well across. And although it's not really my genre , I appreciate
the quality of the game , the production and the courage to come up with
such a distinct and original album . Nice that we have bands in the
Netherlands that can make this . Certainly one of the most surprising
Dutch albums released this year . For lovers a must to listen to.
