Legendary folk-rock band Fairport Convention will be playing in Bristol and Weston in the coming months. The band, now in their 47th year, are appearing at Weston Playhouse on march 1. Then they will be part of the line-up for the Bristol Folk Fetsival over the weekend of May 3 and 4.
The visit to Weston comes during their 30th consecutive winter tour. Co-foudner and lead singer Simon Nicol said: "We are really looking forward to going on the road again. "A few of the venues are new to us but most are places we've been back to frequently; in fact, we've played a couple of them 29 times." Simon was one of the band's original mambers when it was formed in 1967.
Simon said: "Our next big anniversary will be Fairport's Golden Jubilee in 2017. But even after nearly fifty years on the road, we still look forward to playing in front of audiences. Although we regularly record new albums our first love will always be live performance."
This year's winter tour concerts will open with a short solo set from talented singer/songwriter Edwina Hayes who has worked with Jools Holland, Nanci Griffith and Roger McGuinn among others.
