Belgian Mick Farren/Andy Colquhoun review

http://www.keysandchords.com/6/post/2013/11/mick-farren-andy-colquhoun-black-vinyl-dress.html
The career of Mick Farren , for many a blind spot , ended the year in a swan song .
The founder and pianist of the sixties group The Deviants is no more. Collapsed into each other on July 27 this year during a reunion concert with The Deviants in the Borderline in London . Mick suffered for years from an incurable lung disease and had his performances regularly interrupted with an oxygen bottle . The release of his latest zieleroersel , 'Black Vinyl Dress' , brings a final tribute to a talented musician and writer .

After three LPs with The Deviants Mick kept the revolutionary and anarchist it a day and he dove into music journalism . Wrote for NME , and not let himself without witness with short stories and poetic lyrics .

The Deviants brought a mix of dreamy sixties pop and anarchist precursors of punk period . After 40 years of evolution, you can only conclude that Mick Farren similarities with Jan Decorte : the essence compressed into a lump of emotion.

When " Black Dog Circle ' first slowly through your speakers blaring and stirs your soul slowly but surely , you want more. Listen to " Cocaine + Gunpowder ' and get carried away by an afro -beat , a mantra . No powder needed!

The lyrics are often witty and direct, and rather dark colored in their entirety . Writing style reminiscent of the late Kevin Coyne ( " I do not like it here , nothing works' .... oh yes indeed ! ) .

" Pick up the Scissors ', however, is an up - tempo song with a nice Zappa content . High voices contrast pleasantly with the bass voice of Mick . And it really works!
In 'Beautiful Woman' are meager vocal qualities are nicely packaged by the backing vocals .

'Cigarettes ' allows you to gently rock back at a steady pace in a beautiful musical arrangement , interspersed with ' something between two cigarettes .

This 'Black Vinyl Dress ' shows you how to mix . Poetry and music catchy and inspiring The guitar Andy groans , swings melodic and reinforces the narrative texts Mick . Spoken word with a measured accompaniment . Mick Farren will remain etched in our memory as a musical word artist. Now we can all dream of the woman in a black vinyl dress !

...BECAUSE SOME OF US THINK THAT THIS STUFF IS IMPORTANT
What happens when you mix what is - arguably - the world's most interesting record company, with an anarchist manic-depressive rock music historian polymath, and a method of dissemination which means that a daily rock-music magazine can be almost instantaneous?

Most of this blog is related in some way to the music, books and films produced by Gonzo Multimedia, but the editor has a grasshopper mind and so also writes about all sorts of cultural issues which interest him, and which he hopes will interest you as well.
