MIKE PORTNOY On Cruise To The Edge Tribute To YES Bassist CHRIS SQUIRE - "It Was About Spirit And Unity, Done With Love And Respect

Legendary Yes bassist Chris Squire died back in June 2015 at the age of 67. Squire, who co-founded the band in 1968 with singer Jon Anderson, was diagnosed with Acute Erythroid Leukemia, an uncommon form of Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML), earlier this year. The band confirmed his death in a statement: “It’s with the heaviest of hearts and unbearable sadness that we must inform you of the passing of our dear friend and YES co-founder, Chris Squire. Chris peacefully passed away in Phoenix, Arizona.”

Drum legend Mike Portnoy (The Winery Dogs, ex-Dream Theater) checked in following a tribute show dedicated to Squire during the Cruise To The Edge:

"Last night's tribute to Chris Squire was really special.... not the easiest music to pull off with all the special guests, technical difficulties, etc., but hopefully everyone realized it wasn't about 'perfection', it was about the spirit and unity, done with love and respect for Chris and Yes.

...BECAUSE SOME OF US THINK THAT THIS STUFF IS IMPORTANT
What happens when you mix what is - arguably - the world's most interesting record company, with an anarchist manic-depressive rock music historian polymath, and a method of dissemination which means that a daily rock-music magazine can be almost instantaneous?

Most of this blog is related in some way to the music, books and films produced by Gonzo Multimedia, but the editor has a grasshopper mind and so also writes about all sorts of cultural issues which interest him, and which he hopes will interest you as well.
