RENAISSANCE TOUR DATES AND MORE

I would like to thank Howard Wuelfing for sending me these details of the upcoming Renaissance tour. As regular readers will know, I am very fond of the music of Annie Haslam (both solo and with Renaissance) and I will gladly grasp any opportunity to write about them/her...

World-renowned progressive rock pioneers Renaissance usher in the latest chapter in their long and illustrious history announcing the first leg of their upcoming 2012-2013 Concert Tour. Lead vocalist/lyricist Annie Haslam and guitarist/composer Michael Dunford are leading a new, revitalized Renaissance that looks forward to the future while honoring the 40 golden years of prior achievements. They will present two different programs on the tour:

  • Classic album Novella along with timeless favorites and selections from their soon to be released album Grandine Il Vento, Reprise of the successful ‘Turn Of The Cards and Scheherazade and Other Stories’ concept

In addition to their tour plans they’re celebrating this new era with a live album and dvd Turn of the Cards and Scheherazade and Other Stories Live 2011, and are in the middle of writing and recording a new studio album. The live album/dvd is being released August 14th on the group's own label Symphonic Rock Recordings, distributed by RED via an arrangement with MegaForce Records. The dates being announced now are an initial leg of their touring and additional dates in more cities and other countries are planned.

Renaissance’s current lineup consists of Annie Haslam and Michael Dunford with the addition of four world-class musicians whose considerable talents maintain the group’s high standards of musicianship and creativity that provides the foundation for their seminal fusion of rock, avant-garde experimentation and classical composition. Keyboardist Rave Tesar and bassist/vocalist David J. Keyes are veterans of prior incarnations of Renaissance as well as Haslam’s solo band and recordings. Keyboardist/vocalist Jason Hart has recorded and performed extensively with Rufus Wainwright, Duncan Sheik, Antony and the Johnsons, and Keren Ann among others, and drummer Frank Pagano has worked with artists as diverse as Bruce Springsteen and the Smashing Pumpkins.

Renaissance’s members are all honored and excited to perform the many timeless masterpieces that Annie and Michael created during the earlier years of the band. Their concert performances will be true to the original recordings, their lush and ambitious orchestrations performed live thanks to the skills of the new members and their command of cutting edge technology.

They are supporting Haslam’s legendary five octave vocal range and the timeless music that’s been taking audiences on a magical journey for over 40 years.

Annie Haslam, Michael Dunford and company first took the helm from former Yardbirds members, Keith Relf and Jim McCarty in 1971 and soon had established Renaissance as a world class recording and touring act, able to sell out venues like New York’s Carnegie Hall and The Royal Albert Hall in London. They would go on to release over a dozen albums before eventually parting ways in the mid-80’s. However, Annie and Michael would continue to write new material together and in 2001 reunited the band to record a new studio album, tour the following year, and release a live album. After another sabbatical, a new incarnation was introduced to the world through a series of amazing live shows, captured for posterity on Turn of the Cards and Scheherazade and Other Stories Live 2011.

...BECAUSE SOME OF US THINK THAT THIS STUFF IS IMPORTANT
What happens when you mix what is - arguably - the world's most interesting record company, with an anarchist manic-depressive rock music historian polymath, and a method of dissemination which means that a daily rock-music magazine can be almost instantaneous?

Most of this blog is related in some way to the music, books and films produced by Gonzo Multimedia, but the editor has a grasshopper mind and so also writes about all sorts of cultural issues which interest him, and which he hopes will interest you as well.
