ERIK NORLANDER: The story behind 'Military Man'

Photo: In honor of Veteran's Day ... a little story. The army hat on our AFJP Military Man EP cover from 2009 belonged to my grandfather, Everett, who served in the Pacific in WWII. I photographed the hat on a black velvet background especially for the EP art. It is NOT a stock photo. I inherited this and the complete uniform when he passed away in 2002, and I've since had all of it carefully vacuum packed (like the storage prep process they do with wedding dresses) to ensure that it stays preserved. My grandfather began the war as a lieutenant and finished the war as a lieutenant colonel! His brother (my great uncle) flew B-17 missions in Europe and survived despite the very high casualty rate. I have very fond memories of celebrating Thanksgiving each year with my grandfather and our whole family at the Officer's Club at the naval base in Long Beach, California. Let's all celebrate Veteran's Day with gratitude and reverence for those that served! Cheers, Erik (keyboarder)Hi Jon,

Great speaking with you last week as always. I published a little blurb on our ASIA Featuring John Payne Facebook page yesterday in honor of our American Veterans Day holiday. I thought you might find it interesting for the Blog as well:

(British friends will forgive my omittance of the "u" in "honor.")

Best regards,
Erik

...BECAUSE SOME OF US THINK THAT THIS STUFF IS IMPORTANT
What happens when you mix what is - arguably - the world's most interesting record company, with an anarchist manic-depressive rock music historian polymath, and a method of dissemination which means that a daily rock-music magazine can be almost instantaneous?

Most of this blog is related in some way to the music, books and films produced by Gonzo Multimedia, but the editor has a grasshopper mind and so also writes about all sorts of cultural issues which interest him, and which he hopes will interest you as well.
