Rob Ayling writes:
"Thom the World poet, is an old mate of mine from way back in my history. Even pre-dating Voiceprint, when I was running "Otter Songs" and Tom's poetry tapes and guest appearences with Daevid Allen, Gilli Smyth, Mother Gong are well known and highly regarded. It just felt right to include a daily poem from Thom on our Gonzo blog and when I approached him to do so, he replied with in seconds!!! Thom is a great talent and just wants to spread poetry, light and positive energy across the globe. If we at Gonzo can help him do that - why not? why not indeed!!" (The wondrous poetpic is by Jack McCabe, who I hope forgives me for scribbling all over it with Photoshop)
STORY TELLING
Before you read this,a voice carried news between
houses
Ears
loved these human radios on one channel
Eyes
delighted at the sight of a human beaming Tales of Our Age
It
was a Listening Age.we had Time To Burn.
Irish ,Welsh
,Celtic legends of Celtic storytellers
who
would memorize and improvise long ballads
to
amuse and educate those of oracy and immediacy
like
indigenous tale tellers of every tribe on every continent and
age
But
radio voices morphed into visual TV "pesenters"
and
now Incredible String Band only means Robin Williamson
Woody
Guthrie mutates to Spalding Gray
Now
on stage,folk music,maybe a PBS documentary=
THE
HISTORY OF STORYTELLING!
We
have no time.Digital people in a virtual myth world
All
our stories reduced to texts /Tweets/blogs/webbed.
KINDLE
a FIRE for our eyes-voice forgotten unless we remind ourselves
ancient
is modern when the storyteller resurrects
in
advertising agencies,promotions,poetry,greeting cards
Myths
become politicians food/fodder for media now massed like armies
We
become smaller under avalanche information overload
Who
has the time for a poem?Storyteller knows-
she
stands @HEADHUNTERS and recites from her iphone
He
reads with panache at Twin Oaks Library to a circle of writers
LONG
LIVE STORIES!and the tellers of tales
May
they entrance us evermore on and off page and stage!
