TROUT MASK GOURMET

As regular readers will be aware, I spend a lot of my time looking for the stranger and most out there stories about Gonzofolk. But this takes the biscuit; a recipe for carrot cake inspired by Captain Beefheart:

Don Van Vliet aka Captain Beefheart was a musician, artist and free-thinker. He ended his years, secluded in a trailer home in the Mojave Desert, and devoted his time to painting sand and sidewinders.
Dave would love 'The Captain' came to dinner. He, so he says, would ask him if it were true that during the rehearsals for ‘Trout Mask Replica’ he really let a monkey meander across the piano and then made his poor keyboard player learn it note for note.
On his album ‘Doc at a Radar Station’ an instrumental track entitled ‘A Carrot is as Close to as a Rabbit Gets to a Diamond’ provides the inspiration for this sweet treat, an adaptation of a recipe from The Australian Women’s Weekly. (it is easy to follow, even if you are used to using metric or imperial).

...BECAUSE SOME OF US THINK THAT THIS STUFF IS IMPORTANT
What happens when you mix what is - arguably - the world's most interesting record company, with an anarchist manic-depressive rock music historian polymath, and a method of dissemination which means that a daily rock-music magazine can be almost instantaneous?

Most of this blog is related in some way to the music, books and films produced by Gonzo Multimedia, but the editor has a grasshopper mind and so also writes about all sorts of cultural issues which interest him, and which he hopes will interest you as well.
