Greek music legend Vangelis is finally getting the recognition he deserves in the new full-length documentary "Vangelis And The Journey To Ithaka." The DVD was released back in November through Gonzo Multimedia and gives respect to one of the most amazing movie composers ever. Not only did he compose music scores for some of the most famous movies of all time ("Chariots Of Fire," "Blade Runner," "Alexander"), but he also created some beautiful music with fellow classical musicians, opera singers and even rock stars.
The documentary shows the respect that fellow musicians, directors and actors have for Vangelis through newly recorded and archival interviews. Also included are clips to some of his greatest recorded moments like "Mythodea" and the opening ceremony of the 1997 World Games in Athens Greece. He was also a part of last summer's Olympic Games ceremony in London. The documentary gives us insight into his studio and how he composes this outstanding music with being about read or write it.
The images on the DVD are breathtaking and the perfect backdrop for Vangelis music, especially as he describes his upbringing and his parents escape during the Nazi regime. Vangelis' fifty years in music is displayed wonderfully in the two hour documentary.
