WHY DO I KEEP ON POSTING STORIES ABOUT HELEN McCOOKERYBOOK?

It is because any woman who comes up with prose like this deserves respect:

"At the crack of dawn, I bade farewell to Martin at Luton, and drove back through Harpenden and St Albans in the rain before picking up Don Letts' book 'Culture Clash' which I'd ordered from Amazon alongside Vivienne Goldman's book 'The Black Chord'. When will I read them? the house is stuffed with students at the moment, eating pizza and chocolate mousse. They are going out tonight, and something tells me that they will be back incredibly late and will sleep most of tomorrow. That's my time gap: a cup of coffee and a pile of toast, feet up on the sofa, glasses on nose and the switch of rain in the street outside. I am trying to knock an academic paper into shape."

I too juggle rock and roll, academia and a family, and I too have a burgeoning collection of books about punk which threatens to take over the house. Right on Sister!

  1. Hi Jon! Just finished the Don Letts book- interesting. About to write the academic paper on female punks and reggae. Good job it's raining outside!

...BECAUSE SOME OF US THINK THAT THIS STUFF IS IMPORTANT
What happens when you mix what is - arguably - the world's most interesting record company, with an anarchist manic-depressive rock music historian polymath, and a method of dissemination which means that a daily rock-music magazine can be almost instantaneous?

Most of this blog is related in some way to the music, books and films produced by Gonzo Multimedia, but the editor has a grasshopper mind and so also writes about all sorts of cultural issues which interest him, and which he hopes will interest you as well.
