Dear Jon,
Went to see the newly invigorated New Order last week and I must say I was mightily impressed!
The sound at the O2 Academy Newcastle is a hit and miss affair but the band sounded great.
None the worse for the lack of Mr Peter Hook. It seems that his bass is slung so low now that an orang-utan would have difficulty in reaching the strings and that obviously has an impact on his performance. The new guy is great.
The added guitarist filled out the sound nicely and it was good to see Gillian Gillbert back on board.
They played all the classics.... Ceremony, Temptation, True Faith, Blue Monday, Bizarre Love triangle it really was a joy to behold.
What really took me by surprise was the light show, now that was something else! They must have looked to Floyd and Hawkwind for inspiration because behind the band was a huge screen and almost each song had a little art house (slightly surreal) film to go with it, whilst bright multi coloured beams of light swept the crowd, the walls, celling. It seemed to come from everywhere! If you had dropped acid before you went in you would either be a gibbering idiot or in seventh heaven by the end of the show it was that intense.
I have enclosed some pics but they do not do it justice, it has to be seen to be believed. An excellent night and money well spent.
I was so glad I saw them in this line up.
Regards
Davey C

...BECAUSE SOME OF US THINK THAT THIS STUFF IS IMPORTANT
What happens when you mix what is - arguably - the world's most interesting record company, with an anarchist manic-depressive rock music historian polymath, and a method of dissemination which means that a daily rock-music magazine can be almost instantaneous?
Most of this blog is related in some way to the music, books and films produced by Gonzo Multimedia, but the editor has a grasshopper mind and so also writes about all sorts of cultural issues which interest him, and which he hopes will interest you as well.
