FRENCH CAPTAIN BEEFHEART REVIEW

A suitably peculiar review from France of the Captain Beefheart DVD in the highly acclaimed Gonzo Multimedia 'Lost Broadcasts' series. I have an intern here at the moment; a charming young lady called Jessica, and it is to my great joy that I have started to turn her on to the music of the good captain.

If it has not achieved the fame of his famous friend, Captain Beefheart (real name Don Van Vliet) do no less throne in the pantheon of musical precursors 70s alongside Frank Zappa. Died at the end of 2010, he left the circuit in 1982 to devote himself to painting. However, he strongly influenced the world of blues he had decked out in psychedelic and experimental elements, reference the album "Trout Mask Replica" (1969) with highs in this area, preventing the captain to reach mass crowds but he is entitled to great respect and recognition from the community. Then he turned to Germany to promote his album "The Spotlight Kid" and "Clear Spot" in 1972, through a TV show in Bremen. Rehearsals he does in the studio with his Magic Band were filmed and these are the bands that Gonzo Multimedia released on DVD this year.Consisting of 9 tracks for just half an hour, this document is aimed primarily at fans or those wishing to explore the artist without delving into its rich discography, all only 5 songs are actually presented here, "Click Clack" having been taken two, and "I'm Gonna Booglarize You Baby "3, which were finally presented it live. The first track is actually a bass solo performed by Rockette Morton, who alternates with this instrument as the guitar tracks, while the fifth track is a presentation of music by Beefheart, presentation completely useless, the camera operator on the only remaining fixed Winged Eel Fingerling this occasion. The big plan is also often used, which can take advantage of the technique of the musicians and their outfits colorfulbut singularly deprived the viewer of the group dynamics. What is the point of this DVD you wonder then? Firstly, it reveals the imagination of this blessed period.Beyond outfits and colorful flowers, and other monocles and black nail polish, artistic creativity leads both titles completions crazy (the instrumental "Steal Softly Thru The Snow" which starts in every sense an almost random), flying to atmospheric layers colored smoke hallucinogens ("Golden Birdies" where the text Beefheart declaims against him answering a guitar improvised some notes), but also becoming hypnotic riffs loop ("Click Clack ") by which the Captain managed to lead us in his trance at the sound of his deep voice and with a lot of wild cries (" I'm Gonna Booglarize You Baby "). those who already know the artist but n ' have not hooked, remain in their positions. Lovers will be in heaven, and newcomers will make a review about this monument in a few minutes. In a very poor technical and artistic interest very limited, this object will find that the mechanism through collector is that for fanatics, and it makes tribute to an artist that it would be a shame to ignore, even if access to the world is not given to all ears. ...BECAUSE SOME OF US THINK THAT THIS STUFF IS IMPORTANT
What happens when you mix what is - arguably - the world's most interesting record company, with an anarchist manic-depressive rock music historian polymath, and a method of dissemination which means that a daily rock-music magazine can be almost instantaneous?

Most of this blog is related in some way to the music, books and films produced by Gonzo Multimedia, but the editor has a grasshopper mind and so also writes about all sorts of cultural issues which interest him, and which he hopes will interest you as well.
