SPOOKY TOOTH LOST BROADCASTS BELGIAN REVIEW

I am particularly fond of some of the releases in the critically acclaimed 'Lost Broadcasts' series of DVDs which showcase material recorded for German TV back in the day. The first one of these that I came across was the one featuring Spooky Tooth, and it was this DVD that was the subject of my first slice of writing for what was to become The Gonzo Daily...

It must have been somewhere summer 1969 when we were here in Belgium were surprised with a song that sounded so beautiful that we have more information about this band went searching. With "That Was Only Yesterday", and the raw vocals of frontman Mike Harrison, I was a bird for the cat. Spooky Tooth will from that moment the band in my miserable life. Unfortunately, this number never really in our Flemish charts correctly but from the same album, "Spooky Two ', were two impressive songs" Feelin' Bad 'and' Better By You, Better Than Me ", songs that we did on Radio Luxembourg 208 got to know.

A few weeks later I the album, you have the specialized record could find a bargain. My surprise was even greater when I heard this album was full of great songs. Spooky Tooth was a unique bond: two keyboard players, one with American roots Gary Wright and Mike Harrison of English soil, two singers together in terms of voice timbre in a wonderful way to supplement knew. 'Spooky Two' was the only Spooky Tooth album which enormous emotion sat and an album that was not matched. Listen carefully to their version of Larry Weiss' "Evil Woman", a performance you today still by the throat. Just the guitar work of Grosvenor spoke volumes. Unfortunately, this DVD release only one song from this classic, namely "Waiting For The Wind '. The DVD starts with a black / white shot from the German program "Beat Club". We see and hear a beautiful version of the Band's "The Weight" played by the line-up of 'Spooky Two', so Gary Wright (keys, and he sits with his back to the audience), Mike Harrison (vocals), Luther Grosvenor (guitar, later as Ariel Bender in Mott The Hoople, Widowmaker and his own Ariel Bender Band goes), Greg Ridley (bass) and Mike Kellie (drums).

This number is nowhere to be found on their studio albums but was released as a single in 1968. Esoteric Recordings released a few years back a 'Best Of' from them, and then we find the number back. Strangely enough, the b-side of this single 'Bubbles' is their first album "It's All About". The rest of this DVD contains all recordings that other interesting TV program "Music Loading 'in color broadcast. "Old As I Was Born "," Cotton Growing Man "and" Moriah "(the latter two titles we get two versions) can be found on their" You Broke My Heart .. So I Busted Your Jaw "immediately had a different lineup. If we now guitarist Mick Jones on bass and Chrissy Stewart. Bryson Graham was the drummer of the band on this longplayer but during the sessions for Music Laden was replaced by Mike Kellie. 'Waiting For The Wind', from their second album, was broadcast in the same program. Here, but also on the dreamy "Moriah", we see singer Mike Harrison on the piano while he and Gary Wright on vocals worry. A DVD with nothing but goodies.

That these images provide the necessary nostalgia, is a fact. The images are of relative quality but I think the soundtrack was replaced with the original songs. "The Lost Broadcasts" are a series of audiovisual documents that show performances of rarely broadcast live performances. Some of the musicians we have here at work is now true legends become these DVDs are a serious addition to your music collection. Thanks Gonzo Multimedia we get back now that opportunity which we have long been waiting for: our favorite bands yet even live to admire ... "The Lost Broadcasts" are valuable treasures amongst other live performances. Thanks to Gonzo Multimedia we can relive the great moments of Spooky Tooth's brilliant performances in 'Beat Club' and 'Music Loading. This DVD Should be your next purchase to extend your record and DVD collection. Alfons Maes (5)

...BECAUSE SOME OF US THINK THAT THIS STUFF IS IMPORTANT
What happens when you mix what is - arguably - the world's most interesting record company, with an anarchist manic-depressive rock music historian polymath, and a method of dissemination which means that a daily rock-music magazine can be almost instantaneous?

Most of this blog is related in some way to the music, books and films produced by Gonzo Multimedia, but the editor has a grasshopper mind and so also writes about all sorts of cultural issues which interest him, and which he hopes will interest you as well.
