A SNAKE IN SICILY
D H Lawrence had a "pettiness to extirpate"
when he threw a stick at a black snake
who had come from the Underworld to drink at his well
Awareness of powers greater than us a start/art comes
when life lives beyond us/into an Eden
where snakes are equal to apples
and temptation is not assigned a totem
Ancestral shadows lurk in our reptilian minds-
fear and anger are first responders
where healing of hurts need bandage
Walking wounded zombie victims bleeding teardrops
plopping themselves upon the too few living loving
asking for that which they need be giving-
to love,strengthen,support,encourage all
so each and every is One enough to be beyond one
To be more than before our life challenge
Snake knows.That is why we fear her.
SNAKE SKIN
occasionally,i have found the hollow husk of snake essence
thin as paper,discarded casually as a spirit
might leave her body on a floor to trick us
into believing core is all.We know more!
New skins come.We shed dandruff,hair,habits,lives
getting to the core of all takes lifetimes.
A GREATER POWER
than snake is car.Merciless and motored
wheels squash all final appeals to mercy.Red blood and flesh.
Mess left for flies and vultures.A cautionary forensic
will autopsy separation as the key.To have left evidence
of our carelessness rather than foul play.To remind us-we are next.
